Learning by discovery
Learning by discovery allows students to acquire new knowledge making
autonomous experiences and experimentations. In order to construct their knowledge
through discovery, students need a previous set of interests, strategies and knowledge
to be to able to find and select stimuli in the environment. They also need the ability
to set their own learning goals and to self-regulate in the processes enacted to manage
and transfer the knowledge.
The features of the discovery are analyzed with reference to other kinds of active
learning, to the role of the adult in the teaching-learning relation and to the prerequisites
for a meaningful learning outcome.
Key-words
Discovery, self-regulation, active learning
